Important Information on Confidentiality of Counselling and Psychotherapy

What you discuss is confidential except under exceptional circumstances such as:

(1) If you were at risk in harming yourself or others

(2) required by law - e.g.  legal, ethical or criminal issues involved

(3) Child First Legislation and Mandatory Reporting require that if I know any identifying details of someone who was the cause of child abuse, present or historic, this I am required to report this to Social Services

This would also be discussed with you in advance. I also work under Supervision, as is the norm for all Therapists. Should a case prove particularly challenging for me, I may discuss it with my Supervisor. The client's identity and details are not disclosed in any manner in Supervision - purely the issue - to ensure I  offer the appropriate treatment and support to my client.

"The hardest thing for a 21 year old male suffering from depression and anxiety is to talk. To admit to yourself you need help. To look someone in the eye and to speak to their face. To tell them how you feel and how you think. To feel like they actually understand what you are saying and don't think your crazy. It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life to date".

Male Client, 22
